Absorption discontinuance is a specific form of discontinuation of proceedings against a perpetrator of a given crime, which applies when other proceedings were pending against him and a relatively severe punishment was imposed on him.
The essence of absorption redemption is the discontinuation of proceedings in an offense punishable by up to 5 years imprisonment, if a sentence against him for this offense would be "obviously pointless" due to the type and amount of a final sentence imposed for another crime.
Absorption discretion allows the offender not to be punished for a crime if he is already punished for another, more serious crime. Absorption remission may be applied only if the victim's interest does not oppose it.
