A convict who does not carry out the penalty imposed on him (fine or restriction of liberty) can expect that such behavior will not remain without a reaction from the Court. In the event of persistent ignoring of the imposed obligations, the most far-reaching reaction of the justice system may be to order a substitute penalty of imprisonment, i.e. imprisonment in exchange for an unpaid fine or unperformed socially useful work. It is clear that the inconvenience of staying in prison is much greater than the need to pay or work – many people in such a situation try to take all possible actions to avoid imprisonment. Fortunately, the Executive Penal Code provides for the possibility of avoiding a substitute penalty in the event of paying a fine or committing to fulfilling obligations related to the restriction of liberty.
